A butt lift is a surgical procedure that can lift and tighten the butt by removing excess skin. It can also be called a lower body lift. It is most suitable for patients who have lost a lot of weight and suffer from sagging, lax skin. Patients who experience discomfort and chafing from their excess skin will feel relief after surgery.

Results are permanent and the butt will be in a perkier position.

However, the skin will continue to age over time and the surgery does not improve skin quality. Some patients may opt for liposuction together with a butt lift to remove any pockets of fat before firming the skin. A butt lift does not create an augmented appearance. Patients can combine their procedure with butt implants or fat grafting to add volume.

A typical butt lift procedure requires general anesthetic. It takes about 2 to 5 hours to complete. The patient's legs are placed into sequential compression boots during the surgery. This helps to avoid the formation of blood clots during and after the surgery. Surgeons can use various incision techniques. One method is from hip to hip at the top of the buttocks.

Another incision technique is a curved V shape on each butt cheek. The last method is an incision at the crease where the lower buttocks meet the upper thigh. Once the incision is made, the excess skin is stretched and lifted to make the butt perkier. Surgeons remove the redundant skin, close the incision and cover it with surgical dressing. They may also insert drains to prevent the build-up of excess fluids. Patients need to take antibiotics during the  recovery period to avoid any infections. They must also wear a compression garment for a few weeks following the surgery. The recovery will take 2-3 months, but final results will be  achieved after 1 year. While the effects are permanent, patients need to maintain their weight to ensure lasting results.

Downsides include permanent scarring and possible asymmetry. The complete recovery can take several months. Weight fluctuation can affect the results and a butt lift can sometimes create a flatter bottom.
